I wanted to take a brief moment to give you an update about our library/media center. In conjunction with the grant provided by PTO last year, we are in the process of creating an applied science and design space in our old computer lab. As part of the transition, the technology program is being redesigned to provide students opportunities for differentiated and creative learning experiences that will focus on everything from digital responsibility/citizenship to multi-media creation. Many of the computers will be moved into the library to form a "center model," that will have children working all over the room on different phases of learning projects. There will be much more forthcoming as we move forward, however, the library will also stay intact in regards to books. Every class will still have the opportunity to check out books (as an avid reader myself, I LOVE the library!), explore authors, and hear stories. The change will be that the space - which is by far the best in the building - will get heavier use for learning, when it is not being used as a library. In essence, the model will center around "literacies," versus a single concept of "literacy." We will be embracing and teaching both!
You may have noticed that we've stripped the walls in the library. But, to make way for the new, we had to get rid of the old! After some fresh paint and new decorations, you won't believe how fantastic it is going to look. Until then, pardon our mess!
That's it for now. Again, stay tuned for more on the redesign!
