PPES News: Going to Desert Ridge?

MediaFest 2011 will take place Saturday, Sept. 24, 2011, at Desert Ridge Marketplace, and on Saturday, October 15 at Paradise Valley Mall. This technology-based event is free and thePV community is invited to attend.

The purpose of MediaFest is to demonstrate the uses of technology in PVschools and to show our appreciation to the community for supporting technology in the classroom.

Visitors to this event will see three levels of technology currently in place at PVschools:

  • Level I Visitors may view video documentation of technology usage in PV schools. These videos will be displayed on flat panel displays, operated by a Key Club student from Pinnacle High School. Visitors will also have an opportunity to see additional technology on display.
  • Level II Visitors are invited to sit in on a mock computer lab, with classes conducted by PV school staff. This area will allow visitors to engage in a hands-on experience. The schedule of presentations:
    • 11 a.m. — North Ranch Elementary School: H.O.T.S. (Higher-Order Thinking Skills) for 21st century learning
    • 11:30 a.m. — Echo Mountain Primary School: iCan, iWill, iLearn with iPad
    • 12 p.m. — Sonoran Sky Elementary School: Googlicious - Google Apps in a Snap
    • 1 p.m. — Grayhawk Elementary School: Technology Lynx Us to the World

The presentations will take place in air-conditioned, vacant retail spaces. Signs and volunteer will be in place to help visitors.

  • Level III Performances by three different school ensembles, who use Apple iPads and iPods to create music. These performance/demonstrations will take place on the District Stage, located near the western end of the merchant area. The schedule of performances:
    • 12 p.m. — Pinnacle High School
    • 12:30 p.m. — Sunset Canyon iBand
    • 1 p.m. — North Canyon High School

A similar format will be in place for the second MediaFest 2011 event at Paradise Valley Mall on Saturday, Oct. 15, and the main event, MediaFest 2012, will take place in the spring. Please check back for details.
