PPES News: Lockdown Drill Thursday

Dear Parents,

It's that time again: Lockdown Drill! In order to be prepared for the unlikely event of needing to lockdown the building for students' safety, we have to practice. So, this Thursday afternoon at 1:00, we will have our first drill of the year. I know most of you are familiar with the procedure, but here's a quick reminder:
  • The drill is called over the intercom.
  • Teachers close and lock doors, dim lights, quiet the students, cover the windows, and move away from the door.
  • The office locks all exterior doors.
  • Teacher's take attendance and communicate it to the office
The entire event takes around ten minutes. However, please be aware that if you are in the building, you're going to have to stay put. Also, if you are out of the building, you are going to have to stay put. As you can see, in a lockdown, there's a lot of "staying put!" We have to follow the strictest drill guidelines in accordance with law enforcement parameters for a successful drill, and I thank you in advance for your cooperation. We cannot, under any circumstance, open a door during a lockdown, drill or not.

We are telling the children about the first drill so they aren't scared and know what to do and what to expect. The next several will be unannounced, however. These always go off without a hitch and are actually simpler than evacuations!

Thanks and have a great night!

Mike
